DESIGN FOR STREETS ON PAPER      MATHHODD SERIES      PHILIPPE HALABURDA STUDIO     2017

The right angle

The right angle

Mathhodd series on paper, New York, 2017

In a reference to the Commissioners' Plan of 1811, the original design for the streets, I imagined an opposite design of the city and create this irregular grid.
In comparison with irregular street patterns of older cities, my grid proposes unexpected angles and structures
where there is no control, no balance, and no order.
It's call for liberty and a research for what urban planners call "the right angle".
