Stuyyvesaan series on paper, Aix-en-Provence, 2016
Stuyvesant Town, initiated in 1942 as the largest "super block" development ever undertaken up to that time, is a great architectural source for my imaginary maps.
I decided to do this series also because the influence of Le Corbusier comes out, more specifically in Stuy Town, though.
The complex is based on the Radiant City and separates pedestrians from cars and commercial spaces. (And because its beautifully landscaped parklands were private property & the complex was cut off from Manhattan's grid by a walled perimeter, the site plan drew heated criticism.)
