FOLDING GOLDF LEAF ON PAPER      23KAARATT SERIES      PHILIPPE HALABURDA STUDIO     2024

Alchemy

About the theme of "alchemy"

I use gold leaf paper and color tapes to create this new series of 23 artworks
—like the 23 carats of gold.

Gilding with gold leaf offers a luxurious and intricate method to create these new abstract compositions on paper as I draw inspiration from the ancient practice of alchemy.

I incorporate it into my compositions to infuse them with richness and depth
that brings a luminous and luxurious effect.

The gold leaf paper serves as the foundation, adding a shimmering backdrop that catches and reflects light, evoking a sense of opulence and mystique.

Once the gold leaf is in place, I introduce folds and creases into the paper
using tapes or other tools.

These folds add dimension and texture to the composition, creating visual interest and complexity.

I then incorporate color tapes to introduce geometric elements, playing with lines, shapes, and patterns to create dynamic visual textures
and contrasts.

Through carefully manipulating folded gold leaf paper and tapes,
I strive to evoke the essence of alchemical transformation in my artworks.

Each fold and layer contributes to the complexity of the composition, inviting viewers to explore the interplay between light, form, and color.

By blending ancient techniques with modern aesthetics, I seek to create abstract artworks that captivate the imagination and evoke a sense
of wonder and intrigue.
