ABSTRACT RHYTHM ON PAPER      THE NINTH SVVIIZDJANN SERIES      PHILIPPE HALABURDA STUDIO     2022

A ninth

About the theme of "ninth chord"

In my creative process, music serves as both a companion and a catalyst, guiding the rhythm of my brushstrokes and influencing the flow of my compositions.

As I delve into major and minor ninths, I am intrigued
by the dissonant quality of the significant ninth interval, spanning 14 semitones.

It is a complex harmony that resonates with tension
and ambiguity, much like the layers of complexity found
in abstract art.

With each brushstroke, I seek to capture the essence of
this dissonance, translating its sonority into visual form.

Using acrylic paint, I explore the interplay of colors and textures to evoke the dissonant quality of the major ninth interval.

Bold contrasts and dynamic brushstrokes convey
the tension and unease inherent in this musical interval.

Vibrant hues clash and intertwine, creating a visual cacophony that mirrors the discordant notes of the major ninth.

I build depth and complexity through layers of paint, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of sound and color.

Tape becomes a vital component of my artistic expression, serving as a structural framework that guides the composition, much like musical notation guides a piece of music.

With tape, I delineate shapes and patterns, weaving together elements
of chaos and order. The tape is a visual metaphor for the boundaries and constraints inherent in musical harmony while allowing for moments
of spontaneity and improvisation.

As I layer paint over tape, I blur the lines between structure and chaos, inviting viewers to contemplate the delicate balance between dissonance
and harmony in music and art.
