New York's shifting ethnic mosaic
Abstract cultures on canvas, New York, Bronx, July 2017
In this third series of paintings made in a Co-op city in the Bronx, I imagine how to show the diversity of New York
as a great crucible of people within one of the larger cities.
It remains very much a mosaic; a montage of neighborhoods in which certain groups predominate.
I worked on the representation of traditional ethnic enclaves, sprawled amoeba-like into adjacent communities.
These various colors and flavors of people continue to emerge and combine into various geometric potentials.
