Importance of the grid

About the theme of "the grid"

The grid of Manhattan is an iconic symbol of urban planning, characterized
by its orderly arrangement of streets and avenues that stretch across the island.

This rigid geometric framework is the foundation of the city's built environment, defining its spatial organization and facilitating movement and connectivity.

From the vantage point of a Co-op city apartment in the Bronx, the distant view of the Manhattan skyline offers a striking contrast to the dense urban landscape, providing a unique perspective on the city's iconic grid.  

Through my artistic exploration, I seek to capture the essence of Manhattan's grid through abstract topography reminiscent of cartography. 

By deconstructing and reimagining the grid's familiar patterns, I aim to visually represent the city's dynamic urban fabric.

Each line, shape, and intersection reflects the intricate network of streets
and avenues that define Manhattan's iconic grid, offering a fresh interpretation
of the city's spatial organization.  

In creating these abstract topographies, I draw inspiration from
the juxtaposition of order and chaos inherent in urban life.

By manipulating geometric forms and compositions, I seek to evoke the complexity and vibrancy of Manhattan's grid while exploring the nuances
of my mental landscape during my time in the Co-op city apartment.

Finally, I seek to offer viewers a glimpse into the interplay between physical
and mental topographies, inviting them to contemplate the layers of meaning embedded within the city's iconic grid.
