SOCIAL KNOWLEDGE ON CANVAS PHILIPPE HALABURDA, NEWPORT, VT, USA MAY 2020
About the theme of "nonhuman culture"
What constitutes the human differences in society is cultural, not biological.
Culture produces adaptive behaviors that can transform urban or natural environments.
In particular, nonhuman culture has been hugely undervalued.
Although people are distinct from one another, their mental capacities (cognitive, emotional, or imaginative) are not and permit them to believe that objects, creatures, and places possess a distinct spiritual essence, a soul.
For example, the behavior of animals from their ecological habitats generates circumstantial geographical patterns.
It is what I represent here: how it shapes the multiple evolutionary trajectories.
Visualizing these evolutionary trajectories offers a unique perspective on the intersection between human and nonhuman elements.
Abstract maps become a canvas for exploring nonhuman culture's subtle yet profound influence on our experiences and surroundings.
Using color inspired by natural environments, geometric forms, and graphic elements like angular strokes becomes a language to convey the dynamic interplay between these cultural forces.
I try to create a visual narrative that transcends traditional boundaries.
My art becomes a symbolic exploration of the intricate dance between humanity and the broader natural world.
