Telomeres

Sections of DNA on canvas, Newburgh, NY, January 2023

Telomeres are the distinctive structures found at the ends of our chromosomes.
They are made from DNA sequences repeated over and over again.
A Telomere is also required for cell division and allows the chromosome to be replicated properly.
I imagined the visual aspect of the multiple divisions in this series.
As their length shortens with age, I use shorter pieces of tape to reflect the aging aspect.
