ABSTRACT COMPOSITIONS ON PAPER IN THE MIDST OF LEVVON SERIES PHILIPPE HALABURDA STUDIO 2021
Gerrymandering
About the theme of "Gerrymandering"
To create an abstract map representing this topic, I utilize ribbon and color tape on paper to depict the manipulation of electoral district boundaries.
Through strategic placement of color tape, I delineate the altered boundaries
in a manner that highlights the distortion and irregularity characteristic
of gerrymandered districts.
The acrylic paint serves as a backdrop, providing depth and texture to the map while also symbolizing the political landscape upon which gerrymandering occurs.
By incorporating various hues and patterns of color tape, I convey the multifaceted nature of gerrymandering, which can be driven by political, ethnic, racial, linguistic, or religious motivations.
Each strip of tape represents a different aspect of the manipulation process,
from deliberately drawing boundaries to favor one party to the disenfranchisement of specific communities.
Through the interplay of acrylic paint and color tape, I aim to capture the complexity and insidiousness of gerrymandering as a tool for political gain.
As viewers engage with this abstract map, they are encouraged to reflect on the broader implications of gerrymandering on the democratic process
and representation.
Through the visual representation of manipulated electoral districts, I seek
to raise awareness about the erosion of democratic principles and the need
for fair and transparent electoral practices.
This series is a stark reminder of the dangers of political manipulation
and the importance of safeguarding the integrity of electoral systems
