Sensory memory
About the theme of "sensory memory"
The concept of sensory memory serves as the initial stage
in the complex process of memory formation, acting as a temporary repository for sensory data received from
the environment.
This stage of memory processing encompasses various modalities, including iconic memory for visual stimuli and echoic memory for auditory input, ensuring the continuity
of perception across different sensory domains.
Textures of the tapes and paint mimic the fluidity and transparency of dream experiences, capturing dreamscapes' intangible and elusive qualities.
Layering techniques, such as washes or collages, mirror
the fragmented nature of dreams, where memories, symbols, and emotions intertwine to form a tapestry of meaning.
The transient nature of sensory memory underscores the impermanence of sensory experiences and highlights the importance of efficient encoding mechanisms to facilitate the transfer of relevant information to subsequent memory stages.
In this series, I explore the theme of information loss inherent in sensory memory, capturing the ephemeral nature of sensory experiences and the challenge of retaining fleeting impressions before they fade from consciousness.
Through visual representations and artistic expression, I aim to evoke contemplation on the fragility of memory and the transient nature
of human perception.
By confronting the inherent limitations of sensory memory, this series invites viewers to reflect on the complexities of cognition and the role of memory
in shaping our understanding of the world around us.
Ultimately, it serves as a meditation on the fleeting nature of sensory experiences and the quest to preserve fleeting impressions in the ever-shifting landscape
of memory.
