ABSTRACT ANCESTRAL SYMBOLS ON PAPER      PIINTAAD SHIIVWV SERIES      PHILIPPE HALABURDA STUDIO     2022

Mason's mark

About the theme of "Mason's mark"

In my latest series of mixed media artworks on black paper, I pay homage
to the ancient tradition of Mason's marks, infusing them with contemporary
artistic expression.

Drawing inspiration from these ancestral symbols, which historically adorned dressed stones in built structures, I have crafted my unique interpretations
of the circle, triangle, square, and diamond.

These marks serve not only as signatures of my creative process but also
as meaningful representations of my work and the ideas I seek to convey.

Each artwork in the series serves as an abstract map, guiding viewers through visually exploring the concepts and themes embedded within the mason's marks.

Through a meticulous process, I inscribe the marks onto the paper using
the back of a brush dipped in wet paint.

his technique imbues the marks with a tactile quality, allowing them to emerge organically from the paper's surface and inviting viewers to engage with
their intricate details.

As viewers immerse themselves in these abstract maps, they are invited to contemplate the deeper meanings behind the mason's marks and
their relevance in historical and contemporary contexts.

Just as these symbols once marked the approaches to towns and cities,
my artworks serve as gateways to new realms of thought and interpretation, offering glimpses into the interconnectedness of past and present, tradition and innovation.

Through my artistic exploration, I aim to honor Mason's Marks' rich legacy while charting new territories of creative expression and discovery.
