Emotional
Cartographies
Abstract paintings, works on canvas or paper
and installations that turn the places we inhabit
into vivid maps of color, geometry and material.

I am Philippe Halaburda, a French-born, New York-based artist.
I have been working across painting, paper, and installation since 1995.
Mapping what
cannot be seen.
Philippe's paintings, works on paper, and installations use color, geometry, and material to trace the psychological effect of place, a practice rooted in psychogeography, the study of how environments shape mood, memory, and behavior.
Each piece functions less as a picture of a place and more as a translation of what it feels like to move through one.
Selected work
“Emotions and senses generate the shape of a map
but it's more than a map.”

Psychogeographic Abstraction, Mapping the Emotional Architecture of Space
Through layered geometry and intuitive mark-making, Philippe Halaburda's abstract paintings construct shifting visual environments shaped by memory, belief,
and lived experience.
Guided by a dérive-like process rooted in Psychogeography,
his work investigates the subtle relationships between mind and place, translating invisible urban structures into expressive, collectible paintings on canvas and paper.
This practice has evolved from figuration into abstraction
over three decades of artistic research.
